What’s the best time to go on this safari?

The dry season from June to October is ideal for wildlife viewing, but both parks are accessible year-round.

Mikumi is great for spotting elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, and wildebeest. Nyerere adds a chance to see hippos, crocodiles, wild dogs, and rare birdlife.

You’ll spend one night near Mikumi National Park, and two nights at Camp Seluu, our tented lodge near Nyerere National Park.

Itinerary

Depart Dar es Salaam in the early morning for a scenic drive westward to Mikumi National Park (approx. 5–6 hrs). Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge, followed by your first afternoon game drive.

Highlights: Mikumi’s wide-open plains offer excellent chances of spotting elephants, lions, buffalo, giraffes, and large herds of zebra—often with the Uluguru Mountains rising in the distance.

Overnight at a lodge inside or near Mikumi National Park.

Enjoy an early morning game drive when the animals are most active. After breakfast, begin your drive southward to Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve), a journey of roughly 6–7 hours through rural villages and scenic bushland.

Arrive at Camp Seluu, our peaceful tented camp near the Rufiji River, just in time to settle in and enjoy a quiet evening surrounded by nature.

Start your day with a guided walking safari, led by an experienced ranger. It’s a chance to slow down and connect with the land—spot animal tracks, learn about local plants, and maybe glimpse wildlife up close in the bush.

After lunch and a bit of rest, head out on a boat safari along the Rufiji River. Drift past hippos, crocodiles, and flocks of birds as the sky turns gold at sunset. It’s one of the most peaceful and unique safari experiences in Africa.

On your final morning, enjoy a sunrise game drive, a last chance to spot predators on the move or elephants by the river. After breakfast, begin your journey back to Dar es Salaam (approx. 5.5 hours), arriving by late afternoon.
