Yes, the 7-day Machame Route is ideal for first-time climbers. It gives you time to adjust to the altitude and includes varied scenery that keeps each day exciting.
How fit do I need to be?
You don’t need to be an athlete, but you should be in good physical shape. Regular walking, hiking, or gym workouts will help. We recommend starting training 1–2 months before your climb.
What is not included?
Flights, tips for your crew, personal gear (like boots or jackets), and travel insurance are not included. We’ll send you a full checklist so you know what to expect.
Will I get altitude sickness?

How cold does it get?
Nights can be very cold—especially near the summit, where temperatures can drop below freezing. Dressing in warm layers is key. We’ll help you prepare with a full packing guide.
When is the best time to climb Kilimanjaro?
The best months are January to early March and June to October—dry weather and clearer skies. December is also possible but can be wetter.
What is included in the climb package?
Our package includes airport transfers, two nights in a hotel before/after the climb, park fees, tents, meals on the mountain, professional guides, porters, and safety equipment.
What kind of support crew will I have?
You’ll be supported by a full team: certified guides, cooks, and porters. They carry your gear, set up camp, prepare meals, and monitor your health throughout the climb.
What are the sleeping arrangements like?
You’ll sleep in high-quality mountain tents, shared by two climbers. We provide sleeping pads, and warm sleeping bags are available for rent if you don’t bring your own.

Itinerary
- Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Start your climb through lush rainforest filled with birds and monkeys. The trail is green, quiet, and a little muddy but the air is fresh and full of life.
Overnight at Machame Camp
- Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Cave Camp
The trees thin out and views open up. You’ll walk up rocky paths and across open moorland, with Kilimanjaro showing more of its face.
Overnight at Shira Cave Camp
- Day 3: Shira Cave Camp to Barranco Camp (via Lava Tower)
A big day for altitude! You hike high to Lava Tower, then drop down to sleep lower. This helps your body adjust. You’ll feel the change in air—and in yourself.
Overnight at Barranco Camp
- Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Climb the famous Barranco Wall—a fun, hands-on stretch with big views. Then follow gentle valleys and ridges to your next peaceful camp.
Overnight at Karanga Camp
- Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
The landscape gets bare and wild as you move closer to the summit. Take it slow and rest early—tonight is your big push.

- Day 6: Summit Day (Barafu to Uhuru Peak, then down to Mweka Camp)
Start before midnight and walk into the stars. Reach the summit at sunrise—cold, proud, and unforgettable. Then make the long, careful descent.
